What is the Hugging Face Club?

The Hugging Face Club @ Waterloo is a collaboration between Hugging Face and uwaterloo students, empowering students to dive into state-of-the-art machine learning.

With hands-on projects, open-source collaboration, and access to Hugging Face’s latest tools, you’ll build and ship real AI applications—while learning from and contributing to a global AI ecosystem.

Join us to get practical experience in model development, training, and deployment, and help shape the future of open-source AI—right from campus.

About the teams you will be working and collaborating with:

| Hub (5M+ users, 1M+ models, 300k+ apps) | Host Git-based models, datasets, and Spaces on the HF Hub | You'll get to foster one of the most active machine learning communities (5M+ users), helping users contribute to and use the tools that you build. You'll interact with Researchers, ML practitioners and data scientists on a daily basis through GitHub, Discord, our forums, or Slack. | | --- | --- | --- | | Transformers (143k ⭐️) | State-of-the-art ML for PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX | You'll get to add new model architectures to the world’s most popular ML library, helping millions of users access the latest advances in NLP, vision, and multimodal AI. Your work will make Transformers more accessible to developers and researchers globally—something you can be proud of and share with the entire community! |

Two Club Program Tracks

Track 1: Junior ML Scholar (1st & 2nd Year Students)

• Dive into models, datasets, and Spaces
• Build ML demos and help others use or add models to the Hugging Face Hub
• Collaborate with researchers to onboard their models to the Hub
• Get hands-on with transformers, NLP, CV, and Hugging Face tools

Track 2: Senior ML Scholar (3rd & 4th Year Students)

Take on more ambitious roles, including:

• Working directly with us to add new models to the Hub
• Learning open-source best practices and contributing at scale
• Exploring model architectures and the inner workings of Transformers & HF libraries
• Efficiently testing and evaluating large models
